The President of HarvardIn "Introducing Myself," the first piece in The Wave in the Mind, I said, "... and on the day when a Radcliffe woman is president of Harvard University, you wake me up and tell me, will you?" Well, I'm very pleased that I didn't have to wait till after I was
dead for Harvard to have a woman president, but I'm not exactly
retracting my statement. A Bryn Mawr woman is a very fine thing, of
course, but she's not a Radcliffe woman. And since Harvard reduced
Radcliffe College to an institute, which emits men and women but
cannot produce a Radcliffe woman, I can almost certainly die without
expecting to get waked up at least not on this account.
